Coaching is a newer profession that has synthesized the best from psychology, business, evolution, philosophy, spirituality and finance to benefit individuals who are ready to make lasting, positive changes in their lives.
Why Does Coaching Work?
Coaching works out of a combination of three unique features:
Synergy–Client and coach become a team, focusing on the client’s goals and needs and accomplishing more than the client would alone.
Structure–With a coach, a client takes more actions, thinks bigger and gets the job done, thanks to the accountability that the coach provides.
Expertise–The coach knows how to help people make better decisions, set the best goals and restructure their professional and personal lives for maximum happiness, balance and productivity.
Who Works With a Coach?
Anybody who is willing to grow and wants a partner as they co-create, fix, solve or plan something will achieve more, faster and smarter, if they work with a coach. When people are fully heard and understood, they move forward quickly. Without this, people generally slow down or even stop.
What is Worked On?
Here is a short list of what a client and a life coach work on together:
–Integrating personal life and business for balance
–Making key decisions around boundaries, tolerations and standards
–Designing strategies to deal with a major life transition (relocation, career change, entering/leaving a relationship, etc.)
–Uncovering basic needs and strengths as a prelude to developing a life plan
–Simplifying and/or downshifting a lifestyle
How Does a Coach Do This?
Coaching is delivered during regular, weekly sessions by telephone. Clients bring an agenda of items to the call. The coach helps them to solve the problems and make the most of the opportunities.
Coaches bring out the client’s best by offering advice, expecting a lot, helping them strategize and celebrating the wins. The majority of the work is actually achieved in the time between the phone calls as clients carry out the actions and tasks they have chosen for that week. Many coaches have an international clientele since the work is done via phone and e-mail.
