As you might expect from someone who coaches people around life transitions, I have gone through quite a few myself. Here’s a summary of the major ones:

Vivian Banta, Life and Transition Coach
Relocation
Although born in Tokyo, Japan, I am a child of the desert, forming my roots in the multicultural border town of El Paso, Texas. College and work opportunities allowed me to live, learn and work in Philadelphia, PA, London, England, Columbia, SC, Raleigh, NC, Colorado Springs, CO and Moscow, Russia. These experiences broadened my interest in cross-cultural communication and diversity and cemented my belief that all people share things in common.
Career Change
I’ve been told that my generation can expect to change career fields at least a dozen times on average during our working lives. So far, I’ve held jobs in retail consumer electronics, banking, accounting/payroll, not for profit, government (social
services), small business/ management consulting, warehousing, food services, operations management, human resources, customer service, telecommunications, education, training and development and of course, coaching.
Relationships
In returning to my home town of El Paso, I am balancing life with my elderly parents as I deal with the end of a serious personal relationship. I am always working on innovative ways to maintain my close family relationships and friendships as well as meet new friends and colleagues.
Coaching Style
In my coaching, I call upon a rich landscape of life and work experiences to bring a unique, yet complementary, perspective to my clients.
I am warm, open, honest and direct. People say that I’m generous, creative, highly principled and a strong listener who has a great memory. I have a sincere and compassionate manner. I love using both humor and challenging questions to move my clients forward.

Interests
I enjoy being creative, whether it is expressed through crafting, cross-stitching, jewelry making or reading and writing science fiction. I love experiencing new things such as ethnic foods, going to the movies and traveling. I revel in environments and situations that engage all of my senses and allow me to be present in the moment.
